What do you do when you encounter ungrateful, selfish people on a daily basis?

Smack’em with kindness! Yes, I KNOW HOW HARD THAT IS TO DO! Webster’s Dictionary defines “Ingratitude” as: “Forgetfulness of, or poor return for, kindness received.” It can also be defined as not appreciating or valuing what you have,

Smack’em with kindness! Yes, I KNOW HOW HARD THAT IS TO DO! Webster’s Dictionary defines “Ingratitude” as: “Forgetfulness of, or poor return for, kindness received.” It can also be defined as not appreciating or valuing what you have, or have been given. Unexpressed gratitude is also ingratitude! In spite of having “zero dollars and zero cents” according to my automated banking system, I still manage to help those around me in some form or fashion. As a child, I always loved hearing the story of the Good Samaritan and I took it to heart. I was taught helping others was the best way to show our love for our fellow-man and be close to God. Talking about helping people wasn’t enough. You actually had to act on it. I have acted on it my entire  life and have never understood why other people don’t do the same. ESPECIALLY, when you have repeatedly helped some folks and when you need a favor, they are nowhere to be found! I don’t ask for money because that isn’t truly helping that person. If they offer, I’m not going to turn it down. I’m not crazy! But if I can truly provide the help to someone I will do it regardless of any inconvenience or even detriment to myself. I don’t take the tax receipts when I donate because to me, that isn’t true charitable giving. I’m not perfect but I strive to do the right thing. It’s not hard to do the right thing. I find it more exhausting to skirt the right path. I really do! Doing the right thing and helping my fellow humans comes second nature to me. I just want a THANK YOU once in a while! I will even wait for the next blue moon! That is all I ask! Apparently, that is too much! But I will keep on giving of my time and expertise in whatever the moment calls for and maybe one day I will hear those wonderful words!
