According to a May 2013 Gallup Poll, exercising less than three days a week accounts for people having a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher. This lack of exercise is a direct link to the increasing obesity rates. One way to add physical activity to your lifestyle is to participate in fun runs. Fun Runs have been popping up across the globe as a way to add fun to your fitness regimen. You do not have to be a running expert. Walking is allowed if that is more your speed. People of all ages, body types, and fitness levels participate in these events. In addition to fun runs being a way of getting fit, they also benefit local charities and merchants. The recent Hypnotic Donut Dash in Dallas, Texas gave a part of the proceeds to The Birthday Project. This organization provides birthday parties for children who are homeless or transitional living facilities. Merchant’s benefit by gaining new business through marketing pamphlets, t-shirts, and water bottles handed out at the events. Participants get the benefit of fitness and discovering new vendors and organizations. Check your local community calendar to see when the next fun run event will take place in your area.
